Jay is my oldest child. Throughout his grueling battle with cancer, I witnessed Jay's compassion for others navigating their own difficult journey. Additionally, he was deeply touched by the support and love from others who offered him hope and support throughout his 18-month, treacherous treatment plan. It was those two things combined that inspired us to establish Jay's Hope, to honor his memory, extend his unwavering commitment to never lose hope, and support friends, loved ones, and strangers throughout his life.
I have spent the vast majority of my career in health care. And while I had dedicated my professional life to improving the lives of others, I was in no way prepared for my own son's diagnosis with cancer. There is something unimaginable when the circle of life is disrupted, and I would give anything to have been able to take his place. I debated exiting health care after losing Jay, finding it incredibly difficult to spend my days within the environment where I witnessed my son lose his battle.
However, inspired by his absolute passion for life, his deep desire to squeeze every ounce of joy from every single day, and his relentless commitment to support others, I have not only remained in health care professionally, but my deepest life passion is fulfilling the mission of Jay's Hope. A mission of supporting and giving hope to other young adults battling this dreadful disease, and to honor the memory of my precious son. Our goal is to spread joy, and in some small way, lift the heavy burden these young individuals face - even if for just one day.

I serve Jay’s Hope by helping coordinate support, engaging partners, and championing efforts that directly benefit those we serve. My focus is on ensuring the mission has the proper support, people, resources and momentum.
I’m Jay Burger’s step-father, and my relationship with Jay’s Hope is personal at its core. After losing Jay, I made a commitment to help carry forward what he was always so good at—bringing people together with real humor, warmth, and purpose. Through Jay’s Hope, I work to keep Jay’s legacy alive by helping build community and rally support for college students and young adults facing cancer. For me, it’s about turning grief into action; connecting people, opening doors, and making sure these young adults feel seen, supported and less alone—just like Jay would’ve wanted.

I have been a board member of Jay’s Hope since its inception, assisting with organizing our golf tournament, recruiting marathon participants, and overall organizational processes.
Jay Burger is my older brother and the best big brother anyone could ever dream of. Seeing his battle and incredible struggles firsthand revealed to me the cracks that young, college-aged individuals with cancer fall through.
Through Jay’s Hope, we’ve been able to provide aid to keep them from falling through the cracks during their battle. I’ve seen how much our organization can impact others’ lives in such hard times. The work of Jay’s Hope gives me a sense of peace, knowing that Jay’s courageous battle was not in vain and that we are still here to fight alongside others like him.

Jay was my older brother. I had a very special bond with him. He was the best big brother anyone could ask for. We were 11 years apart, but I have very fond memories of spending time with him. I always looked up to him as a child, and do to this day.

I was fortunate to meet Jay in our first year of college at the University of Iowa. Jay was my roommate in the dorms. He was the best friend anyone could ask for. He always brought comedic relief and a positive attitude to stressful situations.
At Jay’s Hope, we believe in turning hardship into hope for others. Hearing the words “you have cancer” as a young adult is something no one ever wants to face. With Jay’s Hope, we’re able to provide not just financial support, but also a source of encouragement to lift people’s spirits during their darkest moments. Knowing we can bring light, hope, and relief to those navigating such a difficult journey is what we are most proud of.

As a Jay's Hope board member, I help with the strategic vision and execution of our mission, as well as monitor our email communications, sponsorship committee, and marathon cheer squad.
Jay was one of my best friends for 6 years until his passing in 2016. From the first day we met, he was the type of person who made it feel like we had been friends for years. I cherish those days. My dedication to Jay's Hope's mission stems from the strength Jay showed during his battle with cancer. He displayed so much strength and courage. My belief is that Jay's Hope can bring light and summon Jay's strength to all the young adults battling cancer.

I am a proud member of the Jay’s Hope board and a friend of Jay and his family. I’ve been working with Jay’s Hope since it formed, attending and volunteering at the golf outing and running with the Jay’s Hope team in the Chicago Marathon.
Jay and I were early pledges to Phi Delt at Iowa. He was always bringing people together, making sure we were all included and having a good time. Above all else, he was a good friend and brother. He kept in touch with me, despite our distance after college, and through his battle with cancer.
He was courageous, caring and would do anything for his friends and family. Our goal is to return the favor to those who are battling like Jay did, to let them know they are loved, that they aren’t alone in their fight, and to have courage and hope through it.

As a board member and treasurer of Jay's Hope, I help to maintain accurate financial records, manage cash flows and budgeting, and monitor our accounts.
Jay was a close and dear friend whom I met on one of the first days of college at the University of Iowa. Jay was a fun-loving and outgoing person, both before and during his diagnosis. With Jay's hope, I want to instill that fight and spirit in others going through a similar battle.
