Meet Lance

In August of 2018, Lance was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, just as he was about to start his junior year of high school. After completing three and a half long and difficult years of treatment, he was cancer-free, enjoying the college experience at Texas State, working part-time at a restaurant and studying hard to be an accountant. But, in December of 2023, at his regular oncology check-up, he received the terrible news that his cancer had come back. Jay’s Hope was honored to provide Lance with a grant in August 2024. Here is his experience, in his own words:

“When I found out the cancer returned, I had to break my lease and move back home to begin treatment. It has been a difficult journey filled with many unpredictable challenges. Still, I continued to take classes at Texas State, and most importantly, I remain hopeful and positive about my future, although it looks a lot different from what I planned.”

“Nothing in this world can prepare you for having cancer, but a grant from Jay’s Hope was a great blessing—and allowed me some normalcy in this challenging journey ahead of me. I am so appreciative of Jay’s Hope and your mission to help us young adults who are often overlooked. Thank you for giving us hope!”
